Background and objectives of establishment



The increase in marine fuel transportation volume and the sharp rise in the number of vessels entering and leaving ports have raised concerns about the risk of marine pollution incidents.
The marine pollution incident in the Taean area of Chungcheongnam-do in 2007 mobilized private sector disaster response companies nationwide for over 10 months, which led to the establishment of a cooperative association for marine pollution prevention.
The objective of the cooperative association is to establish a stable and competitive marine environmental ecosystem through private sector marine pollution prevention efforts, enhance preparedness and response to marine pollution incidents, contribute to the balanced development of the national economy, and improve the economic status.

Functions

1. Joint response measures for large-scale marine pollution incidents
2. Joint operations and management of disaster prevention and vessel cleaning businesses, as well as the establishment, maintenance, and operation of shared facilities.
3. Matters related to industrial standardization, inspection, and research on disaster prevention and vessel cleaning businesses.
4. The conclusion of collective agreements aimed at promoting the economic interests of the association members.
5. The business entrusted by the national/local government, central association, or federation.
6. The facilitation of brokerage and mediation of entrusted transactions under the Law on Promotion of Mutual Cooperation.
7. Approved business activities necessary for achieving the objectives of establishment.
8. Establishment and operation of cooperative revitalization funds.
9. Registration and operation of cooperative trademarks.
